December 2014: cruising budget

The cruising costs for December were about $832. A few annotations:

  • Transportation – The cost of the combi ride went up since last year! By like…a quarter. We also took the taxi back and forth to Playa Linda a couple times.
  • Groceries – We stockpiled some of our favorite Mexican goodies (cochinita pibil, chilorio, salsa casera, totopos, media crema) and we reintroduced hard liquor back into our diet.

I’d say that this month was probably among our cheaper months because we didn’t leave home very much. We were saving our pennies to pay for Jeff’s trip to Mexico City to take the GRE, the fee for the GRE itself and grad school application fees. We aren’t including these costs in our cruising budget, but if we were to include them it would bring the spending up around $1500.

We are Jeff and Harmony, a couple of Pacific Northwestern homebodies (hogareños) who decided to take our home, a 30 foot Nightingale sailboat named Serenity, and our fat lovable cat, on an adventure. We cruised around Mexico, Central America and the Pacific Ocean for about 3 years until the Pacific Northwest beckoned us back home.
