That’s more like it. Back to the slow bleed. Despite the fact that we did an inland adventure with our friends in January, it was a relatively affordable month. I attribute this to the fact that once Claire and Brandon left we went into hermit mode, which is highly conducive to saving money.

Transportation – Transportation in and out of Boca Chica is EXPENSIVE. It is by far the most expensive public transportation we’ve encountered to date. Per person it costs about $8 round trip from Boca Chica to David. If both of us go into David, it’s $16 just to ride the bus. As a result we try to limit the number of times we go into the city by buying fresh produce from the produce trucks that come to Boca Chica or going to the market on the Panamerican Highway for provisioning (though the prices can be a bit steep there).

Adventure – This was our most expensive category for January because we let ourselves off the hook a bit (didn’t worry so much about pinching pennies). We spent a couple days with our friends in Boquete (a small town in the lovely, cool, misty highlands) where we spent about $30 a night for a room, ate out for most meals, splurged on cups of coffee (prices that rival Starbucks back home), and hired a local guide to take us to a sweet little spot in the canyons outside of town. It’s fun to leave the coast and see what the inland has to offer every now and again.
