I’m gonna be johnny on the spot with our budget this month because I’m pretty excited that we came in under budget! I credit this primarily to the fact that we spent the majority of the month out at sea (at some point I’ll calculate the number of days). And wouldn’t you believe it, there’s no place to spend your money out at sea. A brilliant money saving strategy. Look at all that green! Gosh, that feels good.
When we were at port we usually found a bar or coffee shop to do our internetting and we also like to taste the local variation on tacos – so many subtle differences. Our life in Mexico really wouldn’t be complete without the requisite fill of antojitos (Mexican street food, more or less) and paletas (popsicles). We’ve also recently discovered the street vendors selling homemade icecream and sorbet. Gimme some of that!
Gas was more than the monthly budget, but that’s understandable given that we traveled over 700 miles this month. We’ve been saving money by purchasing more of our groceries at mercados (lots of small vendors) rather than at supermercados (like Walmart and Soriana). Don’t know why our budget doesn’t reflect that.
The most expensive line item was moorage – the daily fees at Marina Chahue and Marina Chiapas were both very high. For Marina Chahue we paid about $0.80 per foot and at Marina Chiapas we paid $0.7 per foot. That adds up very quickly.
Get ready, however, for the budget to explode in June. We’re planning some inland adventures! And we’ll likely be drinking more beer…because it’s HOT…and because we like drinking beer.
